Why Use Polycarbonate Sheeting For Your Carport - Tuflite Polymers

When building a carport, homeowners look for high density shade-net. But, if you think about using polycarbonate, you can avail twice the benefits you can avail from shade-net, or any other material for that matter. This is because polycarbonates are thermoplastic polymers that are light in weight, sturdy, durable, flexible, impact resistant, and UV-protective. Also, they are available in a wide range of types, sizes, shapes, thicknesses, colours, textures, and patterns, for you to choose from. All these characteristics have made polycarbonate one of the most popular choices for a wide range of applications like greenhouses, patios, awnings, conservatories, skywalks, and all other kinds of roofing. Today, in this blog, we will let you know why polycarbonate can also prove to be a great carport material.

Polycarbonate carports can be transparent or opaque as you wish

First and foremost, you may think that polycarbonate is a transparent material, which means it lets all the light in, making the space hot. But hold on. Polycarbonates are not available as only transparent. They are available in a variety of colours and patterns to reduce the amount of sunlight coming in. Also, they are available in textures which may also block out the light from coming into the structure. And, for your information, even if you choose completely transparent polycarbonates for your carport, you will not have all the sunlight coming in. The polycarbonate sheet has the capability to block the harmful UV rays of the sun, which means only safe light entering the structure, which won't harm your cars or yourself!

Polycarbonate carports don’t become too hot

Next, you wouldn’t want your cars to become hot, sitting in the carport. And, with polycarbonate, you may think that the sun is going to make them all hot. But, that’s not true. Just as mentioned above, polycarbonates have a special UV protecting capability, which keeps the harmful sunlight away. And, the sun that enters the carport is distributed evenly across the space. This is due to polycarbonate’s amazing insulation capability, a very useful facet from semi-enclosed carports.

Polycarbonate carports are highly durable

Polycarbonates have an impact resistance that is 200 times that of glass, meaning no kind of wind, storm, rain, hail, stone, or falling branches can affect the material. So, if you have a polycarbonate carport, you can be sure that your structure will stand tall against all these factors, thus keeping your cars safe too.

Polycarbonate carports are easy to install

Polycarbonates have such unique properties of being lightweight yet impact resistant, flexible yet sturdy, and easy to cut and drill that anyone can easily build a polycarbonate structure, with the right knowledge . So, you wouldn’t need to invest in additional experts to come and build the carport for you. This makes your entire project amazingly affordable!

The above facts leave no doubts that polycarbonates are the ideal choice for carports. So, shop for your preferred polycarbonate sheets in India from Tuflite Polymers, and have your beautiful carport built. Do it on your own, or call professionals – the choice is yours. But, we guarantee you that you won't repent on this decision of yours for years to come!

How Many Polycarbonate Roofing Sheets And Accessories Do You Need? - Tuflite Polymers

Are you planning for a new roof, a patio, a pergola, a carport, or anything similar? The best material you can use to build the roofs of such structures is polycarbonate. And, when you want to build a polycarbonate roof, you will have to calculate as to how many roofing sheets you will need. When you choose the polycarbonate sheet you want to choose – the type, the colour, the texture, and the finish – you will want to place the order of the right number of sheets. You wouldn’t want your work to be hindered because of the shortage of sheets, would you?

Calculating the number of sheets you will require
A standard polycarbonate sheet is generally 800-850 mm in width, but after the overlap, the width that is left for usage is only around 750mm. You will need to divide the length of your roof area by 0.750 to determine the number of sheets you need. So, if you have a structure that is 5m long, you will need 7 sheets (6000/750 = 6.66)
Note – If you have a gable roof structure, you will need to double the number of sheets so that you can cover both the sides with roofing.
Calculating the length of sheets you will require
Once you have got the number of sheets worked out, you will need to determine the length of sheet you need. For this, you need to consider the angle of the roof. Run your tape measure along the long length of your rafter, and add 50 mm allowance for overhanging into the gutter. This will give you the length you require. Generally, a 5 degree fall is required from the top of the structure to the gutter. Polycarbonate sheets are generally sold in increments of 300-600 mm lengths.
Determining the roofing accessories
  • Along with the roofing sheet, you also need the right roofing accessories. Calculating how many fixings you will need for your roof is also important. Roofing sheets are supported by timber or steel members known as purlins. The purlin size and spacing follow the specifications of the roof sheets that you are to install. Keep all the purlins at equal spacings, under the maxixmum available spacing to give your roof a uniform look, without exceeding the maximum specifications of the sheets.
  • You also need screws to fix the sheets in place. You will need to pre-drill a 10mm hole to allow for expansion and contractions of the sheets that will occur with temperature changes, before inserting the screws. To calculate the number of screws you will need, you must multiple the square meter measurement of your roof by 8.
  • Next, you require a purlin tape, which is a strip of foam having an adhesive on one side, which sticks to the top of the purlins. This helps in keeping the expansion noise of the roof sheets to the minimum. A single roll of purlin tape measures 20 meters, so accordingly you can buy the number of rolls you require.
Get all your roofing sheets and other requirements from a reputed and reliable supplier like Tuflite Polymers, where you are sure to get only the best quality materials, no matter what kind of sheets you require – solid, textured, profiled, corrugated, or multiwall polycarbonate sheets in India.
